In March 2022, the Moxy Athens City Hotel, located on Stadiou Street, at Omonia Square, was completed. The former Sarogleio Mansion was transformed into a modern hotel, under the design, guidance, and technical expertise of all the contributors to the project.
The Contribution of HUB Lighting & Innovation by Kafkas
The architectural study gave the historic building, which once housed the Athens Court of First Instance, a distinctive dynamic and modern identity. The lighting of the building’s exterior shell, which is architecturally inspired by the sacred olive tree—the gift of the goddess Athena to the city—was entrusted to the HUB Lighting & Innovation by Kafkas team. The lighting of the individual “leaves” reflects the bicolor that mimics the olive leaf, depending on the twist of each panel. Thus, the hotel’s shell becomes an organic element of the metropolis, constantly changing and communicating with the surrounding environment, depending on natural light, weather conditions, user requirements, and the events happening in the city.
In this way, architectural lighting highlights a contemporary landmark in an iconic location of the city.
