Fodele Beach Crete

The Project

The Fodele Beach Hotel proceeded with the renovation of its sea-front rooms. The renovation focused on the architectural design of the spaces. Great emphasis was placed on combining traditional and modern elements, as well as integrating aspects of the local culture. Both natural materials and the dialogue between interior and exterior spaces were highlighted, with planters and plantings positioned between and within dining areas.

The most vibrant area of the hotel, the pool bar, operates from morning until evening, featuring modern design in earthy tones with prominent blue and green colors, as well as wood elements. Large openings allow guests to enjoy views of the Cretan Sea. As a result, high-aesthetic spaces are created, blending harmony and tranquility.

Challenges of the Project

The design of the spaces, their aesthetics, the materials used, and the prominent presence of plantings were key characteristics that influenced the choice of lighting.

The combination of traditional materials with modern design led to the selection of minimal design lighting, which functions both as general lighting and as accent lighting for the dining areas.

In the Asian restaurant, lighting was placed in the planting beds, with decorative fabric pendant lights in wood tones. Rechargeable lanterns were placed on the tables, providing softer light while focusing on the space where guests enjoy their meals.

In the Italian restaurant, garlands with decorative lamps were used for the general lighting of the area. In the pool bar area, waterproof wall lamps were mounted on the ceiling, supported by the metal structure, with downward lighting. In the seating areas between the chairs and sofas, polycarbonate table lamps were used, offering a bright effect while also serving a decorative purpose.

From Vision to Design

In the materials used for the outdoor spaces (building facades, semi-outdoor room areas), great care was taken to highlight architectural elements (arches, exposed columns). The selection criterion was their durability against external factors such as dust and humidity. The lighting chosen for all fixtures is warm 3000K and indirect, in order to create a relaxing and restful atmosphere, without making the light source obvious to the guest.

The lighting fixtures for the interior spaces of the rooms were selected based on the interior decor, with a focus on natural materials and 3000K light temperature to enhance them and create a cozy and warm atmosphere. Based on the interior lighting study, custom lighting designs were made to harmonize fully with the aesthetic of the spaces. Specially designed pendant lights were installed above the nightstands in the quadruple rooms, and custom-made pendant lights were placed next to the bathroom mirrors. Special designs were also created for the room numbering lighting.
