The Feng Shui Stone House is a private two-story residence with a basement and a pool, located on a slightly sloping plot in the village of Gavalochori, Chania. The architectural design is based on the principles and philosophy of Feng Shui and bioclimatic architecture. Four stone walls of varying lengths and openings divide or connect the spaces of the house into three areas, creating public and private spaces.
Large glass openings extend across the entire length and height of the northern façade, offering an unobstructed view of the Aegean Sea and providing natural ventilation and light. At the same time, large openings on the southern façade allow winter sunlight into the house, revealing views of the garden and the white mountains.
The outdoor spaces are designed according to the needs and well-being of the residents. In the southern environment, there are small private courtyards and gardens with existing trees and rocks, while access to the northern area is direct via large openings, leading to a wooden deck terrace. There is an outdoor seating area with a fireplace and a heated pool.
Challenges of the project
A challenge for the architect, in collaboration with KAFKAS, was to “read” each space and create a lighting design that would harmonize with the principles and philosophy of Feng Shui. Through the lighting, we aimed to enhance the art of “well-being” in both the interior and exterior spaces of the residence. Additionally, the electrical material was installed according to Feng Shui guidelines to ensure aesthetic completeness.
From vision to design
The architect, with the valuable support of our team, envisioned the realization of the project based on the central pillars of Feng Shui. Together with the “art” of lighting, they ensured perfect harmony, functionality, and safety in all areas of the residence.
