The project

GREENTECH in cooperation with KAFKAS completed in August 2020 the construction of a 25.000m² hydroponic greenhouse unit for the production of leafy vegetables in the region of Boeotia.

The contribution of KAFKAS

The plant has been designed to Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) standards to produce various varieties of salads and herbs. It is a model plant as it is the first in Southern Europe to produce leafy vegetables in a fully automated environment with a system of moving channels, using aeroponic rather than soil-based methods. The irrigation water is fully recycled, reducing water use by up to 90%. Beneficial insects are used instead of pesticides to keep plants healthy and is expected to yield 30 times more production per acre compared to traditional farming.

It was a high standard project where Greentech in collaboration with the Caucasus team created a comprehensive project which was successfully implemented under the difficulties encountered during the pandemic. According to the project specifications, cables, plastics and industrial material of high quality and technology were used. Finally, the lighting of the greenhouse unit was a challenge, where appropriate techniques and guidelines were used to ensure the proper functionality of the space as well as the safety of the workers in their professional environment.
