The Project
This project is part of the New High-Speed Railway Line along the PATHEP corridor (Patras – Athens – Thessaloniki – Idomeni – Promachonas) and is being implemented in the Fthiotida region, between the Tithorea and Domokos railway stations. The new 120 km alignment is designed for speeds of 160-200 km/h, replacing the mountainous section of the existing single-track railway line.
The first section, between Tithorea and Lianokladi stations, includes the twin Kallidromos tunnel, which is 9.036 km long. The second section, between Lianokladi and Domokos stations, crosses Mount Othrys and includes a twin tunnel of 6.38 km. To meet the power supply requirements of the infrastructure, MV and LV substations, as well as auxiliary distribution and control panels for main and auxiliary circuits, are necessary.
KAFKAS’ Contribution
To meet the power supply needs of the railway line’s operational systems, KAFKAS assessed product solutions from leading manufacturers and supplied special-specification dry-type transformers (ranging from 800kVA to 1000kVA). These transformers feature low losses and comply with the latest European standards (EU548) under Eco Design guidelines.
The 13 low-loss dry-type transformers provided by KAFKAS significantly reduce thermal losses, enhance efficiency, and contribute to lowering the installation’s energy footprint, achieving substantial energy savings.
