The Project
The objective of the project was the reconstruction and improvement of the functionality and safety of sections that include the sports infrastructure of the former Spyroudi military camp, now the “Stavros Kotsis” area. Initially, there was a small field with artificial turf that was worn out and needed immediate replacement. Around the turf, the dirt track, used for walking, running, and general citizen fitness, had no specifications for sports use (in terms of its surface). The office and locker room area in the old building required improvements to meet the basic functional needs of the space. The former military camp area, which includes the aforementioned sports area, needed a permanent and stable fence to ensure the security and protection of the entire facility. Additionally, all installations had inadequate lighting, making the enhancement of the lighting a top priority for safety reasons and proper exercise conditions for the citizens.
The Contribution of KAFKAS
A key challenge of the project was the upgrade of the lighting for the facilities of the “Stavros Kotsis” sports park in Agia Paraskevi Municipality. Our goal was to improve the lighting conditions in the sports park to ensure the visual safety of those exercising and others in the area during nighttime. Furthermore, with the current global energy crisis, we were motivated to reduce the stadium’s electricity consumption to minimize its environmental energy footprint.
KAFKAS provided the solution with a full lighting upgrade by replacing the main floodlights of the playing field (stadium) and the perimeter lighting with new LED technology floodlights and lights. Specifically, 32 branded LED floodlights with symmetrical beam, high waterproofing (IP66), and high efficiency (140lm/W) were installed for the football field’s lighting, in accordance with current European Standards, following a photometric study carried out for the area. Perimeter lighting fixtures were also installed for the surrounding area. With this lighting installation, sufficient and safe lighting was achieved for all the sports park’s facilities, while energy savings compared to conventional lighting exceeded 45%.
