The Project
These projects involves urban development actions in the Municipality of Messolonghi, specifically in the Municipal Districts of Messolonghi and Aetoliko. The projects include the redevelopment of Kyprou Street with sidewalk modifications, the redevelopment of the city’s canal, and interventions in Vyroniou Square (for Messolonghi), as well as the redevelopment of the southern Aetoliko area, with sidewalk modifications and redevelopment of the southern waterfront in the lagoon area (for Aetoliko).
The actions are part of the Municipality of Messolonghi’s priorities for the continuation of Sustainable Urban Development projects, expanding initiatives for pedestrianizing the historic center and enhancing public spaces. Specifically, the redevelopment of Kyprou, Kanali, and Vyroniou Streets, as well as the redevelopment of Korisshadhon Street and Syngrou Street, aim to complete the basic network of gentle mobility routes leading to the western and southern waterfronts of the city, based on the principles of sustainable mobility. This includes the creation of a pedestrian and cyclist zone that is functionally separated from vehicle traffic.
KAFKAS’ Contribution
The goal of these projects was to give the areas a distinctive character through aesthetic upgrades, improved surface materials, and the renewal of urban equipment (trash bins, lighting fixtures, benches), with a primary focus on improving road safety for all road users and better serving people with disabilities and those with visual impairments.
Lighting for the areas, streets, and public spaces was provided with 195 high-quality LED lighting fixtures of modern design, suitable for illuminating streets, bike lanes, and sidewalks. These fixtures were selected in accordance with the technical specifications and requirements set by the service. The LED fixtures have significantly lower energy consumption compared to conventional fixtures with similar performance, offering large energy savings. They also feature electronically adjustable lighting (dimmable) through the DALI protocol, with a system that maintains light output over time (Constant Lumen Output), eliminating maintenance factors, and are equipped with surge protection.
Through KAFKAS’ lighting solution, a safe installation was achieved using LED technology fixtures fully compliant with the applicable standards and project goals, offering energy savings and improving road comfort and safety for all users of the network.
